As of July 13th 2026, 2,111 confirmed cases have been reported and 760 deaths, making this the third worst Ebola outbreak on record.

How is UNICEF Responding?
Within 48 hours of the outbreak being confirmed, UNICEF had activated its highest emergency classification to enable a rapid response. We're on the ground, working alongside our partners to contain the spread and protect children, who are most at risk in any Ebola outbreak – not only from the virus itself, but from the wider disruption to health, nutrition, education and protection systems.
So far, UNICEF has mobilised 180 metric tons of emergency supplies, including disinfectants, soaps, PPE, water purification tablets, water tanks, medicines, and medical supplies. We've also provided 100 motorbikes to help support contact tracing, nutritional care and psychosocial support for health workers.
UNICEF and partners have trained and mobilised 5,740 frontline workers, reaching more than 1 million people. We've also conducted 27,000 household visits to identify suspected cases and high-risk contacts.
Water and sanitation kits have been provided to 15 health facilities, and handwashing kits to 154 examination centres and 12 schools. We've also reached 8,535 people with psychosocial, mental health child protection support.
"UNICEF's six-month response plan targets 3.7 million people." says Dr. Douglas Noble, UNICEF Global Lead for Public Health Emergencies and Global Incident Manager for Ebola.
"We are also establishing nurseries in facilities close to Ebola Treatment Centres – these are safe spaces where children can be cared for while their parents are treated. Our first crèche opens in Bunia in the coming days."

- $100 could help provide 10,000 water purification tablets, enough to make 50,000 litres of safe drinking water.
