partnership with FIANZ
Doubling impact for kids in Gaza
The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ) has amplified support for children in Gaza by matching donations, enabling even greater contributions towards emergency interventions for children facing acute hunger.
With this support, UNICEF Aotearoa assisted with the delivery of essential aid across healthcare, protection, education, and access to safe water in an increasingly fragile humanitarian environment. As conditions deteriorated and famine was declared mid-year, our focus sharpened to urgently highlight the growing crisis of malnutrition affecting children and families.
Together with our partners, UNICEF raised $1.02 million to help provide life-saving nutritional support and aid to children in Gaza. This collective effort helped ensure that more children could access the urgent care and support they needed during one of the most challenging periods of the year.
Supporting recovery for injured children
In December 2024 FIANZ contributed USD $150k in funding to support prosthetics services for children affected by conflict in the Middle East and North Africa and Gaza.
Working through UNICEF Lebanon Country Office, war injured children have begun to receive these prosthetics. The programme is progressing with 12 children currently at different stages of care. Several are recovering from surgery ahead of prosthetic fitting, while others have completed surgical treatment are ready to begin initial fittings or have received their prosthetic devices.
This support is enabling children with life-changing injuries to access essential rehabilitation and mobility services. This report outlines the support that has been provided so far.
