  3. UNICEF Aotearoa thanks outgoing Chief Executive Michelle Sharp

15 July 2025

NEW ZEALAND, 15 July 2025 – The Board of UNICEF Aotearoa has thanked its Chief Executive Michelle Sharp who is leaving the organisation after almost five years in the role.

Chair Elect Nick Wells says Ms Sharp has helped lift UNICEF Aotearoa’s capability and reach across New Zealand since her appointment in 2020.

“We’re very grateful to Michelle for her open, inclusive, and empowering leadership and her many achievements including our digital transformation, new partnerships and fundraising efforts and driving tangible outcomes for children and communities in the Pacific.”

Ms Sharp says it has been a privilege to lead the organisation as it emerged from the Covid-19 pandemic into an uncertain global environment.

“UNICEF is one of the world’s most trusted and recognised institutions and I’m proud to have worked with some of the best people in the social services and voluntary sector.”

Ms Sharp has agreed to be a strategic advisor to the Board as it searches for a new Chief Executive.

In the meantime, Chief Operating Officer Don Jenkins will lead the organisation on an interim basis.
