UNICEF Aotearoa’s Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin pages are meant to be engaging, learning environments for our supporters and followers to learn about the work we do globally. They’re also public platforms to share ideas, ask questions and to discuss UNICEF, UNICEF’s work and the rights of children worldwide.  

As a human rights organization, we support freedom of expression and encourage open discussion. With this said, like with any public space, our social media pages should also be safe  for everyone - particularly children - to participate in non-harmful messages and disinformation. We try to monitor all our social media posts- both organic and paid campaigns - across all three platforms and we reserve the right to remove comments, posts and photos that: 

  1. are libelous, profane, misogynistic, xenophobic, defamatory, disparaging, hateful, harassing, racist, threatening, or obscene;  
  2. violate another’s copyright or intellectual property;  
  3. condones or promotes illegal activity;  
  4. are fraudulent, deceptive or containing of misinformation;  
  5. are otherwise sexual or offensive graphically or in tone;  
  6. contain spam or are intended to cause technical disruptions to this page;  
  7. are off topic; or  
  8. violate any local, state, federal, and/or international laws or regulations. 

Commenters and followers can disagree with someone else’s opinion. We simply ask that you’re not nasty or inflammatory in the way you do so. We take pride in hosting readers’ thoughts and opinions – but we are not here to enable trolls, pile-ons, and attacks on other commenters. 

Our social media team is small, and whilst we get many comments on our paid and organic posts daily, it’s impossible to monitor if all comments align with the above guidelines. We do our best to protect the interests of our followers and supporters, which means there are times when inflammatory and misinformation comments need to be hidden. Anyone repeatedly posting material that falls into the above categories will be removed and/or blocked from participating on our public pages. Some occasions require us to close comments altogether.

Additionally, UNICEF is not responsible for the accuracy of the claims, information, advice or comments posted by supporters and visitors of the page. UNICEF strongly encourages visitors to this page, or those engaging with our content, to respect fellow community members and to follow Facebook’s Terms of Service. If you wouldn’t say something to a stranger in person and in public, don’t say it on a public social media page.
