The DC10 Fund
A partnership between Dan Carter and UNICEF Aotearoa - driving life-changing impact for kids and communities in Aotearoa and the Pacific!
After leaving a lasting legacy in rugby, Dan was ready for his next big challenge - using his influence to help kids achieve their goals. This starts with making sure they have reliable access to life's basics - like WATER!
Our current partnership with Dan is all about providing safe and sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions for schools, health facilities, and early childhood settings.
Across four of the hardest-to-reach areas of the Pacific, we're delivering the essentials for thousands of children and their whānau.
Even in our own backyard, we're making a difference by helping kiwi kids better understand their rights and know how to advocate for themselves!
$2.5 million invested into water, sanitation, & hygiene programmes for kids in the Pacific.
134,000 children will be protected from preventable diseases in the Pacific.
832 schools will benefit from climate-resilient water & sanitation facilities.

Where it all started
Everything lined up for Dan after visiting the largest Syrian refugee camp in Jordan with UNICEF. He saw first-hand the incredible support we provide for displaced children and soon after became an official ambassador and launched the DC10 Fund.
Dan's journey has been driven by his passion for climate resilient water, something all kids should have!
The effects of climate change are being felt everywhere - especially in the Pacific. Our Pacific neighbours face constant challenges due to their small size, vulnerability to natural disasters, and limited resources. Dan's support is helping us on our journey to strengthen the resiliency of their systems, facilities, and in turn - their children and communities!
Water in the Pacific
One in three kids in the Pacific don’t have access to good sanitation and one in ten lack access to safe drinking water which causes preventable diseases.
These infections and illnesses are the leading cause of death in children under five.
The DC10 fund is helping UNICEF combat this by further investing in sustainable water projects that will be locally-run and maintained. This sort of change is what can empower remote Pacific communities - allowing kids to grow up happy, healthy and able to focus on their education and future.

Emergency Response
We all know natural disasters are increasing because of climate change and the Pacific islands are at high risk of earthquakes, tsunamis and extreme flooding.
These events destroy crops and homes, limiting access to safe water, food supplies and health care which means kids are at much higher risk of disease and malnutrition. The DC10 fund highlights the urgency of these disasters, the need for lasting solutions, and encourages Kiwis to help UNICEF provide life-saving resources within 48 hours, as well as long-term support.
Championing rights in NZ
We're helping to empower our tamariki by educating them about their rights - rolling out a range of teaching material in early childhood centres, primary and secondary schools.
The success of the Kickathon allowed UNICEF to translate our toolkits into Te Reo Māori, Samoan, Tongan and Hindi so that all kids can learn about their freedoms in their native tongue! These resources will help inform kids about their basic rights like privacy, safety, freedom and protection - reaching over 300,000 rangitahi, teachers and parents in 500 schools.

By hosting exciting charity events Dan is shining a light on life-saving UNICEF programmes. The tangible impact the DC10 fund is having for children in Aotearoa and the Pacific is beyond inspiring, it's life-changing.

Support & Recovery
66% of students are estimated to have been affected by the eruption and tsunami while 11 damaged or destroyed schools and two early childhood centres.
The DC10 fund helped provide 7,664 children and teachers with teaching and learning supplies (School-in-a-box & Early Childhood Development (ECD) kits).
What's more, 247 education officials were trained on ECD and Psycho-social support (PSS) for young children.
The Kickathon
Dan dusted off his boots and did what he does best – kicking goals – but this time for kids in the Pacific!
The Kickathon was a world-first fundraising event where Dan pushed his mind and body to the limit by kicking goals for 24 hours straight. After powering through a record-breaking 1,598 kicks, over $500,000 was raised thanks to folks like you!
It didn't stop there - In partnership with UNICEF and the New Zealand International Development Cooperation, we were able to invest over $2.5 million in matched funding into water, sanitation, & hygiene programmes for kids in the Pacific.

The results!
DC10 fund has contributed to over 200 girls in 18 schools getting access to menstrual hygiene management facilities and 122 schools applying water supply safety plans.
Long-term, funds from the Kickathon will aid in the construction of water and sanitation facilities in 832 schools and 38 healthcare facilities throughout Kiribati, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, ensuring they are functional, sustainable, and resilient to natural disasters.

Relief for Tonga
Homes, crops and water supplies were devastated by a volcanic eruption and tsunami that shattered the lives of Tongan communities in 2022.
Families and children were left traumatised, and thousands of locals lost their livelihoods overnight. UNICEF sprang into action by deploying life-saving supplies while Dan helped raise an incredible $500,000 from financial services company Jefferies to support Tonga's education system and make sure children could continue learning!

UNICEF Aotearoa Ambassador Dan Carter's trip to Vanuatu
In Pentecost Island, Vanuatu, Carter visited school children where he learnt about the WASH in Schools programme that is improving the water and sanitation facilities and educating students on hygiene practices.
Kickathon event
Dan Carter completed his challenge of kicking goals for 24 hours and raised more than NZ $500,000 in public donations, helping UNICEF provide water, sanitation and hygiene to children in the Pacific.

Life-saving vaccines for the Pacific
UNICEF has partnered with Rotary on the ‘Give Every Child a Future’ programme. This means 300,000 vaccine doses will be delivered to children on more than 330 islands over the next three years!
