MOVE THE WORLD is a worldwide fundraising event linked to
UNICEF’s global celebration of children, World Children’s Day on
November 20th 2017.
UNICEF is partnering with fitness company, Les Mills International, in creating this global fundraising campaign and one-day fitness activation to help children and their families gain access to safe water, healthcare and food in some of the world's poorest nations.
This year's event will focus on Workout for Water, and the passionate Les Mills instructors and gyms will be asked to fundraise $414 USD, the cost of a well in East Africa that could bring clean drinking water to an entire community. On November 18th 2017 in gyms and fitness clubs around the world, these instructors will lead special group fitness classes with participants who will be asked to make a donation to this important cause. Each MOVE THE WORLD workout will include an added physical Workout for Water challenge that represents an East African child's journey to collect clean water, for example walking 3.7 miles (8,000 steps) whilst carrying water cans weighing up to 45 lbs (20 kgs).
Water crises, like the one in Burundi, significantly impact children, especially the most vulnerable. When children have to rely on unsafe water, they become weak, malnourished and susceptible to water-borne diseases, which are among the leading causes of death in children under five.
MOVE THE WORLD will change lives by channelling the energy and passion of 4 million Les Mills Tribe members into an amazing, life-changing event which will have a huge, positive impact for children.
