Communications Director

Permanent, Full Time

UNICEF NZ is an exciting and unique organization to work for and we have a strong story to tell about our work – both locally and globally. Awareness of our work and of the UNICEF brand is growing, and our team puts innovation and creativity at the heart of what we do to make a difference for children in New Zealand and around the world.

To be the Communications Director for UNICEF NZ, you will be passionate about the brand and the work we do. You will be a story teller extraordinaire who can coach your team to write, interview, film and edit content to best effect. You will be experienced and skilled in digital platforms communication and savvy about what, where and when. Words like “integrated communications solutions” will make sense to you, indeed you can make them rock.

To be the Communications Director of UNICEF NZ you will be as interested in fundraising, and supporting our staff to inspire people to give, as you are about influencing the communications and marketing engine that is UNICEF internationally. You and your team will work across UNICEF NZ teams finding ways to bring global, national and local events to public attention.

You will know the NZ media environment and how to form partnerships that bring the voices of children forward.

We are part of the UNICEF family - the world’s leading children’s agency. We work in more than 190 countries and territories to help children their families and communities by providing clean water and sanitation, education, healthcare, nutrition, and child protection.

We are mandated by the United Nations to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to help them to reach their full potential. We work in ways that enhance the mana of children and are consistent with the Treaty of Waitangi.

This all adds up to: brand positioning, content production, media relations, digital platforms, social media, values led, online presence, website communications and coordinating the celebrity Ambassadors Programme.

The Communications Director manages a team of four people.

Oh yes, and you will be part of the UNICEF NZ Management Team - creating a great place to work, where we smash goals and make a huge difference for children.
