Gopika Gnanakumar

Board Trustee

Gopika joined the UNICEF NZ Board in June 2017.

Gopika currently works for the Department of Internal Affairs as a Senior Advisor for Digital Government policy. Gopika is a Chartered Accountant, (a member ofChartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand) and a Barrister/Solicitor admitted in the High Court of New Zealand.

Gopika has had previous roles at the New Zealand Treasury, Ernst & Young UK, PwC New Zealand and ASB Bank Ltd. She started her career in financial services tax structuring and recently switched to the public sector to work in public policy for the digital era.

Gopika and her family immigrated to New Zealand from Sri Lanka and she has personal and professional commitment to finding solutions to global issues that reach even to hardest to reach children. Gopika also spends time volunteering for the Wellington Women’s Refuge as a crisis support worker and is passionate about solutions that lift child and family wellbeing.

Gopika co-founded Yatra Dance Company and used to run a dance school teaching Bharatanatyam in New Zealand.
