Ukrainian children and families are scrambling for survival. Since fighting escalated in February, they've endured more than 100 days of violence, destruction and upheaval, on an almost unimaginable scale.

Almost two out of every three children in Ukraine have been displaced by the conflict. The total number of people forced from their homes is now more than 8 million, which includes over 3.2 million children*.

Children and families are bearing the brunt of this war and are the ones that need our help most.

100 days of war in Ukraine

After 100 days of conflict, the humanitarian needs of the country’s 7.5 million children are continuing to multiply by the hour. But there’s hope in all this darkness.

Thanks to amazing UNICEF donors, we’ve been working round the clock to scale up life-saving programmes for suffering Ukrainian children and families.  

Our delivery to date:

• UNICEF and partners have distributed life-saving health and critical medical supplies for nearly 3.8 million women and children.

• We’ve provided safe water for over 3.1 million people living in areas where networks have been damaged or destroyed. Nearly 400,000 people have been reached with additional sanitation and hygiene supplies.  

• We’ve helped more than 402,000 children like the Ukrainian refugees in Prahova, Romania, access temporary learning. This includes the distribution of education, recreational supplies, and early childhood development activities to make life a little more normal.  

• Over 1.3 million terrified children and caregivers, desperate for safety and stability, have received psychosocial support for their mental health.

• 37 Blue Dot centers are now operating in surrounding countries with capacity to reach up to 1,000 people each, per day. They provide critical support and protection services for children and families with key support targeted at separated kids. 10 additional centres will be activated in the coming weeks.  

While still so many Ukrainian children need our help - the time to act is now.  

More help is needed in Ukraine.

• 3 million women and children will need critical healthcare in 2022. We're aiming to reach them through UNICEF-supported healthcare facilities across Ukraine.

• 1.5 million people need critical clean water, sanitation and hygiene supplies (WASH). And more than 3.5 million people need access to safe water for drinking and domestic needs.

• 3.3 million children need access to formal and non-formal education, including early learning.

• 1 million children and caregivers need access to mental health and psychosocial support.

• 1.5 million children need routine vaccinations to protect against measles in 2022.
