Gareth and Jo's Water Project in Tanzania: Gareth and Jo are helping UNICEF take clean water to thousands of children in Tanzania.
Dr Gareth Morgan is an Economist, portfolio investor, fisherman and motorcycle adventurer with a larger-than-life persona that has won him many fans. After graduating from Victoria University of Wellington with a PhD in 1980 he joined the Reserve Bank of New Zealand to develop their macro-economic forecasting model. He has since instigated two successful and well-known New Zealand businesses: the economics consultancy Infometrics, and Gareth Morgan Investments (http://www.garethmorgan.com/), his personal portfolio management business.
Gareth is also a well-known columnist, and for over a decade has contributed weekly columns to newspapers including the National Business Review, The New Zealand Herald, The Dominion, The Christchurch Press, Evening Post and Unlimited.
Jo Morgans adult life has spanned a spectrum of interests - from welding to social work, importing, bus driving, teaching, studying languages, and mechanical repairs. She also brought up four children and ran a home as Gareth travelled New Zealand spreading the economic word.
Jo and Gareth tried to expose their children early to the realities of others' lives: in Smokey Mountain, Manila; on the Afghanistan - Pakistan border in the Hindu Kush; and in Korean primary schools. They hoped this would also foster in them a love of travel and appreciation of other cultures.
Now with a grown-up family, Gareth and Jo have widened their activities to roaming the globe which enables Gareth to experience first-hand the businesses, societies and economies his portfolios are invested in.
The details of their global traverse by motorcycle are recorded on their website http://www.worldbybike.com/. Currently they are travelling around Africa for their Under African Skies Tour, and as part of their journey have set their sights on saving thousands of children with a UNICEF Water and Sanitation Project in Tanzania.
