Your monthly donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Gareth and Jo Morgan. So if you give $50 a month to buy a school desk, you'll actually be buying two, helping more children build a better life!

The need for education facilities is acute

Without electricity, safe water, toilets or even desks, it's difficult to teach and hard for children to learn. After inspecting UNICEF's work, and analysing our costs, Gareth and Jo have pledged to support a rebuilding/refurbishing programme in the Western and Choiseul provinces of the Solomon Islands. The programme includes:
  • Building/restoring all 46 primary schools
  • Providing safe drinking water and solar panels
  • Building and improving dormitories and teacher accommodation
  • Building separate latrines for boys and girls

Lessons that save lives

When children are educated and learn about the importance of clean water, good nutrition and hygiene, they take the lessons home to share. The effect is multiplied, improving the living standards of their families, and the wider community.

Gareth and Jo Morgan visited the Solomon Islands with UNICEF NZ Executive Director Dennis McKinlay. Read about their trip on our blog.

'' It's a completely different thing when you visit these places, meet the people and look into their eyes. When you understand how a contribution can make such a huge difference to those kids, you can't help but want to help.''  Jo Morgan
