UNICEF NZ would like to thank the thousands of Kiwis who said 'No To Naff' this Christmas by purchasing gifts that do good for children around the world.

Over the festive season, New Zealanders bought enough water purification tablets to make over 2.2 million litres of clean water as well as polio and measles vaccines for 11,000 children.

On top of these lifesaving essentials, children also received eight water pumps, providing water for eight villages, 72,500 pencils, 955 story books, 39 bicycles, and enough school kits for 320 kids.

The SAY NO TO NAFF campaign, launched by the children's charity back in November encouraged people to change their Christmas buying habits and purchase gifts on behalf of their loved ones for less fortunate children around the world.

"UNICEF has been completely overwhelmed by the great deal of compassion New Zealander's have shown towards these children," says Dennis McKinlay, UNICEF NZ Executive Director.

"We hope people continue to think of UNICEF 'Inspired Gifts' not only for Christmas but also when buying birthday presents for loved ones throughout the year."
