UNICEF NZ has donated hundreds of toys to Wellington Children’s Hospital for patients in the children’s wards and in the community. Toys have also gone to Refugee Services for newly arrived refugee families.

UNICEF NZ Executive Director, Dennis McKinlay, visited Wellington Children’s Hospital today to meet children as they play with their new toys.

The donated toys include UNICEF Land Rover trucks, cube puzzles and wooden animal puzzles.

UNICEF NZ had surplus stocks of toys and wanted them to go to children in need.

Being sick can be a distressing time for a child, but playing with toys and interacting with others can help them feel settled and take their mind off of their illness. The toys can also help refugee children to overcome traumatic experiences associated with displacement and adapt to life in a new country through the power of play.
