New Zealand bands will be playing at a theme party on a boat to raise funds for UNICEF’s emergency relief effort in Haiti.

Tagged ‘Buckets, Boats n Bands!’, ‘BucketHead’s Boat Party’ promises to be a theme party which will ‘rock the boat’. Artists such as Vorn, Jonny on the spot, Kobosh, Street Light Requiem, LigerUppercut, Straight 2 Video, DJ Scientist will be performing on Saturday, 6 March at Tugboat from 8pm. Entry is $10 pre registered, or $20 at the door.

Nick Mitchell, ‘BucketHead’s Boat Party’ organiser, held a successful New Year’s event at Coromandel and BucketHead is a sequel event to this. Following the Haiti earthquake, Mr Mitchell and his friends agreed to channel the funds to supporting relief work there.

There are only 150 spaces for this event, and places are filling up quickly.

“The response has been extremely positive,” he says, “Everyone loves a theme party and is feverishly keen to support the relief efforts. Numbers are strictly limited, so take five minutes and register today at www.buckethead.co.nz”!

UNICEF NZ Donor Marketing Manager, Ellen Voller, says that the ‘BucketHead’s Boat Party’ is a great initiative by Nick and his friends.

“We are grateful to generous people like Nick who are coming forward to help the earthquake survivors.

“The enormity of the destruction in Haiti means much more remains to be done. The support of enthusiastic Kiwis is going a long way in helping Haitians affected by the disaster now and in the immediate future.”

UNICEF is very active in Haiti and is the UN’s lead agency for the co-ordination of the emergency response for water, nutrition and education. For example, UNICEF is providing some hundreds of thousands of litres of safe water daily and has immunized 600,000 children against childhood diseases like measles. UNICEF is also working to register and protect lost and unaccompanied children, and keep them safe from exploitation.
