UNDER COVER Malaria Appeal

Every 30 seconds a child dies of malaria - that's 120 children every hour!

It doesn't have to be this way. Our aim is to get 140,000 children UNDER the COVER of a life-saving malaria net by the end of 2010!

We Need your help

Malaria is a disease that is so easily preventable yet it infects between 350-500 million people each year and kills more than one million – most are young children living in Africa. The UNDER COVER movement, with your help, wants to put these children under the cover of a life-saving insecticide treated net, so the mosquitoes that swarm at night can no longer reach them.

Buy a malaria net!

Malaria-prevention nets cost just $11 each, yet reduce child mortality rates by 20% and illness by 50% by protecting children. One $11 net saves four children, that’s $2.75 per child – ridiculously cheap, yet children continue to die.

Imagine:
  • With $11, you can save 4 children
  • With $33, you can save 12 children
  • With $99, you can save 36 children!
Please donate using the form to the right.
We believe that no child should die from preventable causes. If you believe in this then join us today and be part of the solution.

How will the money be used?

The money raised will be used to help people like Saweba Abu, a young mum who knows the dangers of malaria too well. She has one child – but has given birth to three. Saweba has already lost a son and a daughter to the disease. The thought of losing another fills her with dread.

“Always in my heart,” says Saweba holding her remaining baby, “I worry that I might lose another child.”

Thanks to UNICEF she now has a malaria net for her youngest child to sleep under.

"I am so happy that my baby will not get malaria," she says with relief.

The money raised through the UNDER COVER movement will allow UNICEF to distribute thousands of life-saving nets to mothers like Saweba, so that their children can be protected from malaria.
