This is 11 month old Elijah. Right now, droughts and rising food prices in West Africa are putting more than a million children at risk of starvation.

The countries of West Africa have among the highest death rates in the world. This means that one in five children like Elijah are dying before the age of five.

To prevent a wide-scale emergency, UNICEF is sending life-sustaining supplies to the region before it is too late.

We can save children in Africa. But we need to share now

UNICEF is proving nutrient-rich therapeutic food to starving children like Elijah for just $2 per day.

Thanks to our early action in the Horn of Africa at the end of 2010, UNICEF and partners have treated millions of children suffering from malnutrition and disease. In West Africa (the Sahel), UNICEF is providing 95 per cent of the supplies and equipment needed to treat children suffering from malnutrition in 50 hospitals in Niger alone.

But there are many more children just like Elijah who need urgent food supplies and we are lacking the funds to reach every child in critical need.
