22 Years of Rights

20 November 2011 marked the 22nd anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCROC).

This Convention recognises particular rights of children. The fundamental principles are the best interests of the child and the child’s right to non-discrimination, survival, development, protection and participation.

Out of 195 countries, 194 have signed the Convention, an important recognition of the rights of children worldwide.

To celebrate the 22nd anniversary, UNICEF NZ launched a new publication - "For Each and Every Child - He Taonga Tonu te Tamariki" a description of children's rights in words and pictures. Find out more about the publication and theRead & Rights book launch.
